Fortress Investment Group Executive and Brightline Train Service Owner Wes Edens

As the co-founder of the private equity firm Fortress Investment Group, Wes Edens helped grow the company into one of the largest asset management operations to be publicly traded in the U.S. Established in 1998, Fortress was launched on the New York Stock Exchange in 2007, and by 2016, the firm had managed more than $70.2 billion in alternative assets. Due to the fact that its clients can get low-risk returns by taking advantage of the company’s long-term investment strategies, Fortress is considered to be a trendsetter in the financial industry.

In addition to being a top executive at Fortress Investment Group, Wes Edens owns one of the most innovative transportation systems in Florida. The Brightline Train made its first run in May of 2018, traveling at its high driving speed of 80 mph between the cities of Miami and Fort Lauderdale. The trip only took 30 minutes, which is much less time than it would have taken for people in the area to reach that destination in a car. The passenger train has comfortable leather seats, and offers free WiFi and food service, and with a one-way ticket costing only $10, it is a very affordable way to get around.

Wes Edens was also a Managing Partner at Black Rock Financial Management in 1997, and was a Managing Director and Partner at Lehman Brothers, where he began his financial career in 1987. An avid sports fan, he bought the Milwaukee Bucks, an NBA team, in 2014, for $550 million, and later purchased a soccer team called Aston Villa, along with Egyptian billionaire and businessman Nassef Sawiris. Wes Edens is also the owner of an e-sports team called Fly Quest, which is on the League of Legends platform.

Before starting his career in the investment industry and going on to run Fortess, which was named Hedge Fund Manager of the Year in 2014 by Institutional Investor magazine, and Management Firm of the Year by HFM Week, Wes Edens, who is a married father of 4 children, attended Oregon State University, where he studied Finance and Business Administration and received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1984.
